Embedded within the overarching framework of the Ageing Place Pathfinder, the project sought to address pertinent issues faced by residents of all ages. Over the course of 11 weeks, participants embarked on a multifaceted journey, examining themes such as safety perceptions, community cohesion, and access to green spaces. Through the lens of their cameras, they captured the essence of their lived experiences, shedding light on both shared challenges and unique perspectives.

What emerged from this endeavour was not merely a collection of photographs, but a tapestry of intergenerational connections and mutual understanding. Through spirited discussions and collaborative activities, participants transcended generational barriers, forging bonds that extended beyond the confines of the project.

The culmination of their efforts was showcased at a captivating photography exhibition held at the Beacon Youth Centre. Here, amidst the vibrant display of images, Salford’s esteemed public figures, including the ceremonial mayor and the CEO of Salford Council, came together to celebrate the community’s creativity and resilience.

As part of the Ageing Place Pathfinder’s broader mission, this project served as a catalyst for ongoing intergenerational collaboration. By fostering connections between local organizations and nurturing initiatives such as gardening projects, it laid the groundwork for sustained community engagement and empowerment.

In the grand tapestry of community development, the Ageing Place Pathfinder project stands as a beacon of hope and possibility. Through the transformative power of photography and dialogue, residents of Charlestown and Pendleton have illuminated a path towards a more inclusive, vibrant, and age-friendly community.
